Everybody knows that teams have custom uniforms, but why do clubs do the same?
Mostly, it is for the same reason: to have a common identity. But there are differences.
Custom Uniforms for Teams
Teams that represent clubs are bound by the rules of the game they play in terms of the custom uniforms and clothing they wear, as well as the equipment they use. While the team uniforms they wear may be made in keeping with existing club colors, some sports (baseball for example) have a tradition of wearing predominantly white custom uniforms when they are playing matches at home. But often the club will still promote its primary colors in its custom uniforms.
Custom Uniforms for Clubs
While team uniforms play a major role in the competitive side of sports clubs, not every person who belongs to a club plays in a team. But even those playing social sport can benefit from the camaraderie and bonding that comes from embracing the club image. And what better way to do this than by wearing the club “uniform”? Even children love to wear club uniforms.
So even if club members (whatever their age) are playing friendly games against other clubs, it makes sense to wear identifiable club uniforms. Apart from anything else it makes it easier for spectators to identify the two teams, and those playing feel good to be part of their own team.
But it isn’t just about teams. Many sports clubs have custom uniforms for managers and coaches, in addition to those that their teams wear. These may be officials who participate at matches as well as those who train and coach at home.
Generally, individuals who participate in competitions also have custom club uniforms that they wear. So, for instance, runners and cyclists will wear t-shirts or custom-made tops designed for the club. They will then combine these with shorts or leggings of an appropriate club color. Shoes, socks, and caps might not be part of the custom uniform, although some clubs do insist on specific colors. Often clubs will design their own custom uniforms and boost fundraising efforts by selling them to members.
